Steam Punk Nipper Winston

I've got a cool metal foil card to share with you today!
For this fun steam punk background I embossed a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"  piece of foil sheet tape with the Riveted Metal Embossing folder by Tim Holtz.  I then hand embossed some more lines with an embossing tool and  pressed some circles inside the squares using the tip of a click-open pen (without the ink clicked on).  Next I painted over the whole sheet with black acrylic paint - rubbing most of it off after I applied it.  I also rubbed some Rub N Buff Autumn Gold Wax metallic cream over some of it and buffed it with a paper towel.
My cute little aviator is a digital image from Octopode Factory named Steam Punk Nipper Winston. I colored him with Copics. The sentiment is from Waltzingmouse and I die cut it with a Wonky Rectangle Nestability. Both are layered onto the foil with foam dots.
I made this card for the Technique challenge over on Split Coast.  I feel like I cheated a little using an embossing folder to create my foil background instead of hand tooling the whole thing  (!)   There's a great video on You Tube showing how to make your own metallic foil background here:

I actually learned this technique last May at a class with Tim Holtz - You can see the heart I made at that class on my blog post here.

Stamps: Digi Image - Steam Punk Nipper Winston - The Octopode Factory Etsy Shop, sentiment from Free Spirit Sentiments - Waltzingmouse
Paper: white - PTI
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories: Foil Tape Sticky Back sheets 6"x12" - Ranger, black acrylic paint, brush, Riveted Metal Embossing Folder - Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations, Copics: BG32, BG10, E00, E31, E37, N6, N12, R20, Wonky Rectangle Nestabilities, Rub n Buff Autumn Gold Wax Metallic Cream

WMS May Release DT Blog Waltz

Welcome to the May Waltzingmouse Release Design Team Blog Waltz! Today both new sets, Country Labels 4 and USA 1776 are available to purchase at the WMS shop!

Since we have such a large Design Team now - I was one of the DT chosen to sit out during the sneak peeks this month -    I will be posting 'after the fact' retro-peeks (!) on June 6th and June 27th along with other DT members who were sitting out this month so I hope you are able to check back then for more inspiration using these two new sets!

You should start today's waltz at Claire's blog.  If you are coming here from Belinda's blog  you are in the right place!

I used the USA 1776 set for my first two samples today.  On this card -  I used the cut files Claire sells in the store, stamping in colored ink and clear embossing on the flag, candle and lantern.   I gold embossed the eagle.
I placed the candle (fire cracker!)  inside the lantern from a previous release - Bright Season. I used the free cut file of the lantern to stamp on, again embossing it in clear EP.

This might have been the kind of lantern hung in the tower of the Old North Church ( Paul Revere's Ride - (one if by land, two if by sea)  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow reports in his poem the British were coming by sea so there should be 2 lanterns on my card!)

I embossed the background with the Americana Background and Borders embossing folder.  I looped red, white and blue wrinkled seam tape through the loop on the lantern.  Pretty much everything is up on foam tape.  My card is 4 1/4" x 4 1/4".
I used one of the fire works stamps on my next card - and made it a celebration card - think Birthday or Graduation!   I made a glitter panel - layering a double sided sticky paper over a white card stock panel of the same size and pressing Dazzling Diamonds over the sticky top - then I stamped the images right over the glitter using red and orange Versafine pigment Ink - I found a tutorial for this here.
I added some little flower sequins to the center of each 'explosion' adhering them with Glossy Accents, and framed the panel with a Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Square.  It really is quite sparkly IRL!  Again the size is 4 1/4" x 4 1/4".
I stamped one firework on the inside using sentiments from a previous WMS release, Free Spirit Sentiments
For my next two creations I used the set Country Labels 4.  For project #1,  I up-cycled a gift bag I received from my son on Mother's Day -   the name of the shop he purchased the gift from was embossed in the center of the front and the back of the bag so I embossed one of the labels in this set in silver and die cut it with Spellbinders Labels 4 to cover that up!
I made a second label for the back using the same label stamp.  The For: and From: are from the set previously released - Big Day Additions.
Here's a close up of the label so you can hopefully see the lovely silvery shine!  I die cut the Thank You sentiment with a Mega Deckled Rectangle from Spellbinders and layered it with foam tape.
And for my final project (sorry I'm taking so much of your time!)  I made a sweet little tag using the cherry, leaf and another one of the sentiments from this set.
Look how nicely this cherry stamps - I inked it with the little dew drop shaped Memento inks so it was really easy to get the cherry red and the stem brown - the leaf is a separate stamp.  Claire has such a great mix of fonts on the sentiments in this set.
As always - there will be a prize of a stamp set of choice from a random drawing from comments left on all the DT's blogs. You have until June 1st at  6:59 am EST to leave comments.  The winner will be posted on Claire’s WMS blog on June 3rd.

Remember to hop over to the WMS shop and get yourself some of these new stamps!

Next on the dance card is Laurie!  Remember to leave comments as you waltz along to increase your chances of winning a WMS stamp set!

A Pharm Grad

A friend at work has a nephew who is graduating with a Doctorate in Pharmacy and she asked if I could make a personalized card for her to give him.  "Sure" I said and off I went to the Silhouette shop hoping they would have a mortar and pestle - a traditional pharmacy image -  and luckily they did!  So I cut the pieces with my Silhouette Cameo and sponged the edges with Ranger Distress Old Paper ink to give it some depth.  I adhered the pieces to the card with foam tape which added more dimension.
The Congratulations is from Fancy Phrases by Waltzingmouse and the PAUL was stamped with the Snap Stamp Alphabet by Karen Foster (no longer available)

Here's what I put on the inside -  the graduate is from the Silhouette Store, ' you did it' is from Enjoy the Ride set by PTI and I stamped the 'PHARM.D' with the Fresh Alphabet set by PTI.
Leslie was thrilled with this card and thought her nephew would love it!

Stamps:  Waltzingmouse - Fancy Phrases, Papertrey Ink - Enjoy the Ride - Fresh Alphabet, Snap Stamps Alphabet - Karen Foster
Paper:  Rustic White, true black - PTI, Teal - Coordinations Ranger Distress
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Ranger Distress Old Paper
Accessories:  mortar & pestle cut file from Silhouette Store, corner rounder - Zutter, foam tape.

Dressing up the Jute Bags!

Hi friends!   It's the start of the weekend - Yippee!!  and double Yippee for me because I'm on vacation for a week!  I'm just going to be at home as DH doesn't have the week off -  but the weather is supposed to be perfect summer weather - so I'll be in the yard gardening, sunning a little (with the sunscreen on, of course!), going to a small circus with my sister, my niece and grand nephew and there will be some stampin' goin' on I'm sure!

Today I have a fun project to share with you that is posted over on the Pouch Mart Blog.  I'd SO appreciate it if you'd check it out and maybe leave a comment?!  (the comment button is at the TOP of the post)

So here they are -  my dressed up Jute Bags!   How'd I dress them up???  by spray painting them with Silver Spray Paint!  I got the idea from good ole' Martha Stewart.
I made a pom pom flower out of pink raffia and pinned it to the bag with the sentiment tag.

All my stamps are from Waltzingmouse.  All supplies are listed below.

You'll find all the details and more pics on how I made these over at the Pouch Mart Blog.

WMS May Release - Preview Day 3 - Oodles of Love

Welcome to the final Waltzingmouse May Release Preview day!  Today we are highlighting Compact Sentiments - 2, a compliment set to  Compact Sentiment's  that was released in Feb.

For my project today - I made a little graduation cap box and coordinating card!
The bees and heart circle stamps are from the L'il Buddies set.  The two sentiments are from the new Compact Sentiments -2.

Here's the cap from the top

This cute little graduation cap is a freebie from The Toy Maker. It comes already colored (there's one in black (looks bluish above) and one in white) and includes a paper tassel - but I had a real cord bookmark tassel that I attached to the top with a large brad.  The brad legs show on the inside of the cover shown below - but that little piece of basket shred is almost covering it!  The box is just big enough to hold one of these yummy Ferrero Rond Noir candies - or a roll of cash!
I hope I've inspired you with my creations today!  I appreciate all the lovely comments you've been leaving me during the preview days.

This is our final preview day - tomorrow we'll be back with a Design Team Blog Waltz when the new sets will be available for purchase.  We will be posting at 2 pm EST so Claire has time to reset the store.

Let's check out what the rest of the Design Team has for our enjoyment today!

Day 4 - Waltzingmouse SoAP - Free Spirit - Boy Revisited! And the WMS Sketch

Welcome to the last day of the Waltzingmouse Stamp of Approval Parade - today all of the Design Team is parading the Free Spirit - Boy stamp set.  Check the end of my post to see how you can participate in a parade challenge!

There are lots of summer events coming up that this set is perfect for! I made 3 cards to show you just some of its' uses!  All of the sentiments are from Free Spirit - Sentiments. (a great complementary set for Free Spirit - Boy!)

First off - I made a graduation card.

This could be for a high school or a college grad!  I love the skateboarder and bike stamps.   My design is today's Waltzingmouse Sketch -  and since this is a long post - I'll let you just check out all the details about the sketch challenge here.

Here's what I stamped on the inside:

A lot of people travel during the summer -  so I created this fun Route 66 card.

I used my newly acquired Spellbinders Elegant Posts die and some cool road map patterned paper.

And my final offering for you is a cool summertime surfer card!  I just can not open this set up without using the fun surfboards so here's a surfing card!
First, I embossed a square Nestability on my card.  Then I stamped the boards directly on the patterned paper and adhered it inside the frame.  I die cut the waves and adhered them over the panel with foam tape. I added one little blue gem to the flower on the surfboard.  An easy peasy design!

So there you go -  I hope I've given you a little inspiration for using this wonderful masculine stamp set!

As our parade ends -   we invite you to participate in a CASE (Copy and Share Everything) competition.

Find a card or project from any of those posted during the SoAP by the WMS Design Team.  CASE that project using Waltzingmouse Stamp images, post it on your blog or gallery and link it using the Inlinkz on Claire’s blog.

The competion will close at 8:00 AM Claire’s time (Ireland) on June 10th (3 AM Eastern, 2 AM Central and Midnight, Pacific time).

One project will be randomly selected to be highlighted with a Parade of its own on several of the Design Team blogs.  The winner will be announced on Claire’s blog on June 11th.

And now I hope you'll follow the parade one last time to see what the other Design Team members have to show us using this great stamp set!  Thank you SO much for joining us these past 4 days!

Phew!  I've had a lot of Design Team work posting this past week  - today's card is just for fun!!

It was my turn to host the Color Challenge over on Split Coast this week - and I chose the colors of Rich Razzleberry, Regal Rose and Very Vanilla with the dessert option of using butterflies.

My stamps are from The Crafts Meow -  a sweet set called Fly Free.  I used Sketch #155 from Sketch Saturdays and I used buttons and twine - the Cas-ual Fridays challenge.

Wouldn't this make a great graduation card?!

For the Graduate!

With graduation time coming up for both high schools and colleges - I thought I'd share a project I made that was recently published in the May/June 2011 issue of PaperCrafts Magazine.

It's an autograph book that I made using coasters and my Zutter Bind it all.

The stamps are from Free Spirit Boy and Free Spirit Sentiments by Waltzingmouse.

On the inside of the front cover and on the outside back cover I stamped quotes from the set Words of Wisdom

Just click on the pics to see them larger.   This one says "You've got to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was" Irish Proverb  along with 'do it'

And this one says "Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new"  Albert Einstein  along with 'Go For It'
Perfect quotes for the new graduate don't you think?!  This little book could also be used for photos of the big day and the celebration held after!

Have you got a graduation coming up in your family??

WMS Saturday Sketch - It's Time

Happy Saturday dear friends! Do you have Monday off for President's Day? I do and while I hope to spend some time with DH (!) - I also plan to get some extra stamping in for the WMS sneak peeks starting on Saturday 2/26!! Wait till you see what Claire has created for the March 1st release!

But for today - we have this fun star sketch to challenge us!

I went pretty literal with the sketch (as I usually do!) and made my card a star shape using my Nestabilities.

I used the cute little rocket guy from Half Pint Heroes and the perfect sentiment to go with him from Free Spirit Sentiments. I colored the rocket with Copics and sponged the sentiment with Mustard Seed Distress Ink by Ranger. Then I just added a little ZVA bling. This would make a fun graduation card don't you think?
Now go check out the WMS Sketch Blog and get inspired by the cards the Mischief Makers and other DT members have created using this week's sketch.

Then make your own card using the sketch and link it on the Sketch Blog by Thursday 2/24/11 at 11:59 pm EST - you could be chosen Top Mouse !!

Winners are announced each Saturday along with the new sketch challenge. And now every week one lucky entry will win a free WMS stamp set of choice!! whoo hoo!

I thought these colors and sentiment would make a good masculine graduation card.

I've been crafting in front of the TV lately watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs - GO BRUINS!! (although they blew it last night!)

You Shine!

Happy weekend everyone! It's a beautiful day here today - and I've got to get out to do some gardening - but I just had to do the Inspiration Challenge over on Split Coast first! Today's inspiring web site was Green Rainbow Shop
And I was inspired by this star plate above to create this star card below!
I added a little yellow and orange to it just to perk it up a little bit - since I made mine a graduation card and that is a bright happy occasion! I layered my star and sentiment with foam dimensionals -both stamps are from Waltzingmouse Sewing Box Hugs (this set is SO versatile!)

Inside I layered a panel cut with Labels One Nestabilities. The graduation sentiments are from WMS Free Spirit Sentiments and the cap is from Free Spirit-Boy.
If you would like to see how Claire's WMS stamps are packaged - the size of her sets- the cost comparisons (US dollar vs British Sterling vs Euro) and shipping costs check out her informative posting here.
AND - the WMS DT will be showing sneak peeks of the May 1 releases starting next Tuesday (I'll be starting on Wed) - so be sure to check back - Claire has some wonderful sets coming out and she is already showing some teasers!!

WMS Sneek Peak Day 3

Another day - another sneak peek!! These two new masculine stamp sets are coming out tomorrow at Waltzingmouse!!! ... " Free Spirit- Boy" images and "Free Spirit Sentiments".

Today I have another graduation card to show you - this time using the little graduation cap, the star and some of the numbers (0-9 included in the set). I made this from a piece of card stock measuring 8.5 x 2.5 folded in half so it's a little narrow guy!

And here's what I stamped on the inside - short and sweet with plenty of room to write a personal note to the graduate! Several of these could be whipped up in no time and you could use the particular school colors for each graduate you need one for!

Check out more sneak peeks here:
Claire (posting late due to power outage in Ireland!)

Be sure to check back tomorrow for release day - We'll be having a Design Team Blog Waltz (ie hop!) showing even more fun ideas for these new sets!! and there will be stamp sets to be won!!

WMS Sneak Peek Day 1

I'm so excited to be sneak peeking two wonderful masculine stamp sets that will be available on April 1 over at Waltzingmouse Stamps! Claire really has her finger on the pulse of us stampers and knew we needed a set for little to any age guy events!

Today I used this wonderful cluster of circles stamp (that looked like clouds to me) and I've got the stamped and cut out paper airplane soaring through them. This would be great for any age graudation from kindergarten right up through college or even for someone starting a new career!

Inside I stamped the outline paper airplane right over the sentiment! The new image set is called "Free Spirit - Boy" and the sentiment set, that includes birthday, graduation, congrats, miss you and tons more, is called "Free Spirit Sentiments". Both will be available on April 1.

Guy cards are kind of fun to do - being that they are usually made clean and simple - no buttons or bows for the boys!

Check out the other DT members who are doing sneak peeks today too!

Claire /owner and chief mouse

I'll be back tomorrow with another peek for you so please check back!

Stamps: Waltzingmouse Stamps - Free Spirit - Boy, Free Spirit Sentiments (available 4/1)

All the World's A Stage

I made this fun little theater stage card for my girlfriend to give to her daughter who is graduating from UMass Amherst this weekend with a degree in Theater Arts. What an exciting time ahead for Ali. She's already auditioned for a play for the summer - so we are keeping our fingers crossed that she gets the part!

I found this wonderful template for a circus tent card on Melyssa's blog. I just altered it a little bit to make it a theater stage. Basically I made the stage square and cut the top straight across instead of pointed like a tent.

Here is the inside of my card. I used two velcro tabs on the top corners to hold the card shut. I used brown lined designer paper for the bottom half to look like a stage floor. All the images are computer clip art from Microsoft Word and the sentiments are computer generated also.

On the inside I put "and you're on next Ali !!" Since there was no place for Cilla to write a note to Ali on the inside of the card - I adhered a Top Note die cut on the back in a color that black pen would show up on.

I love how this card came out - and I'm sure Ali won't get another one like it!

And here's a hot tip - do you know Claire Brennan and her blog Waltzing Mouse? She's starting her own little stamp shop to sell sets she has designed and tonight (Thurs) she's going to be offering her first sets for sale - some adorable gingerbread people and accessories. She has created some wonderful cards and crafts using her sets so be sure to check it out! Claire lives in Ireland and has a terrific blog - Tell her I sent you!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Sketchy Graduation

Happy Wednesday everyone - it was rainy and cool here(around 60) all day with more of the same for the next two days - but then it's supposed to be 88 and sunny on Saturday - Yay!

I made this card for today's Sketch Challenge on Split Coast. This is the sketch we were to use.

A friend at work asked me to make a 2 graduation cards for her. Her niece, Erin, is graduating from U Mass Boston and she needed a card for Erin's parents to give her as well as a card for herself. Hopefully we have the correct school colors on these!

I wanted to use my Just Rite Monogram stamps to personalize it and today's sketch with the circle and lines worked out perfectly. The ribbon is navy although it looks black in the picture.
Here is the sentiment on the inside of the card.

Here is the 2nd card I made using the same colors but a different sketch.

On this card I used a Spellbinders tag die for the sentiment and attached it to the dotted ribbon with foam dimensionals. I also added ribbon under the Nestability circles. I used the Distressed Stripes Cuttlebug folder on the white panel.

Here is the sentiment on the inside of this card.

Thanks so much for spending some time here today!

Stamps: Verve Visual - Great Expectations, Just Rite Monogram stamps
Paper: Ballet Blue: SU, Bazzill Blue, White: PTI
Ink: Onyx Black Versafine
