PapertreyInk February Blog Hop

It's time for the PapertreyInk February Blog Hop - always such a fun challenge to participate in!
And here is the lovely inspiration photo Nicole picked out for us from Real Simple Magazine:
I focused on the colors, the little frog and butterfly, the glitter, the design on the green napkin and gray pattern on that little pink panel sticking out on the bottom left!
Pretty much everything on my card is PTI, accept for the embossing folder, the butterfly, sequins and gems.  All the stamps I used are now in The Vault (older sets).  The frog is from  - Pond Life, the sentiment is from Flower Garden Sentiments, the stem stamp is from Beyond Basic Borders.  The tag is Tag Sale #10.
The papers are Limeaide Ice, Sweet Blush, Vintage Cream (card base), Vintage Cream Linen (tag base), the ribbon is Spring Moss Top Notch Twill that I tied with a piece of twine.  The striped background is from Simply Chartreuse Paper Pack. The frog, the scalloped tag piece and the tag base are all layered with foam dots.

I always enjoy seeing what stamps the other blog hoppers are inspired to use!  You can find everyone linked up over at Nicole's Blog.

A Shell in Your Pocket

The Inspiration challenge over at Split Coast this week was a wonderful Shell board on Pinterest.  Here is the card I created.
I was inspired by two photos - my background was inspired by
and the colors for my shells and star fish were inspired by
I made my background using encaustic wax and a small iron - you melt the wax onto the base of the low heat iron and then run the iron over special white encaustic paper - there are all kinds of youtube videos out there on how to control the design you come out with - but I haven't played with it enough to control it - so I get what I get! Here is a link to where I purchased my encaustic supplies. I just LOVE the depth of the design the wax creates and I thought this piece looked just like the bottom of the ocean might look!
I picked up the small shells on the beautiful shores of Sanibel Island, FL. We vacationed there several years in a row - several years ago - and if you have been there, you know the shelling is super - and you just cannot walk along the beach without picking them up!! The tiniest ones like those here, don't add TOO much thickness - although they might not survive mailing unless padding was added.
I colored my shells with Shell Pink and Butterscotch Alcohol Inks - just adding drops over the shells - then drying lightly with my heat tool. The starfish is from a Tim Holtz die -Sea and Sand - and I embossed it with 3 colors of Wendy Vecchi embossing powder, Pink Peony, Orange Blossom and Tree Branch (one at a time) to achieve a mixed color.
I used the Story Book 1 die from Pretty Pink Posh to die cut the sentiment rectangle out of white.  I stamped the sentiment from Gina K Gifts from the Sea with Archival Jet Black Ink and sponged it all over with Distress Salty Ocean Ink. Then I spritzed it with water to create water drop marks.
I'm also linking this creation to:
Cut It Up challenge - Back toNature - use a die cut of things you find in Nature  - (my star fish)

So, just as I'm happy to welcome fall weather - I'm thinking of summer days at the beach again!! OR maybe a nice winter vacation on Sanibel Island again??!!

Cardz4Guyz Challenge - Myth and Magic

Welcome to my 4th and final post as one of the August Guest Designer's over at Cardz4Guyz.  This week the challenge is a tricky one...... Myth and Magic.
Not finding anything particular in all of the millions of stamps I have (!) that definitely screamed Myth or Magic I decided I'd go with a hidden message - which seems like magic!!
When you look through these fun glasses, a message suddenly appears on the framed panel! I used Secret Agent Glasses die from PTI to die cut the glasses and the Top Secret and Restricted Access stamps are from Secret Agent stamp set, also from PTI.  The green frame was die cut with 2 Stitched Rectangle dies from Waltzingmouse and the stamp I used to 'camouflage' the sentiments is Mini Crackle (presently on sale!) from Waltzingmouse.
when you hold the red acetate lens of the glasses up to the pattern (stamped in Hibiscus Burst - similar to the red acetate) - the sentiments (stamped in Simply Chartreuse) are visible!  This one is "Sending warm thoughts for a speedy recovery' (Healing Touch Sentiments - PTI)
This one is "Hope you're back on your feet again soon" (an old wooden stamp from Inky Antics)
and the third one is 'Feel better' (an old wooden stamp from Art Stamps)

Wouldn't it be fun to receive this interactive card in the mail?  This is going to my stamping friend Anne's husband Jay who just had foot surgery today (which is why I particularly used the 2nd sentiment "hope you're back on your feet soon"!!) and I hope it will bring a smile to his face!

Please  join us over at the Cardz 4 Guyz challenge where you'll find lots of inspiration from the Design Team  -  there's a new challenge every Tuesday.   I have really enjoyed my time as Guest DT for August and I thank the team for inviting me to join in.  It certainly has been a challenge to create something masculine each week!

I'm also linking my card to the following challenge:

Cardz 4 Guyz - Numbered Birthday

It's another Tuesday in August - and I'm back for my 2nd week as Guest Designer for the Cardz 4 Guyz Challenge.  This week we are to make a masculine Numbered Birthday Card.
I made mine for DH Kent - this is how old he will be on his next birthday in January 2016 -  I hope I remember where I hide this so I can give it to him then!!   I just love the bold look of the oversized numbers - they are dies from Papertrey Ink.  The background is stamped with Spooky Tree from Waltzingmouse. The two sentiment stamps are from Inkadinkado Bird Assortment.
I used my long forgotten Owl punch from Stampin Up for the cute little critter and the Small Gothic Window die from Poppy Stamps. I sponged Ranger Distress Broken China ink over the edges of the piece inside the window frame.  The heart and eyes on the owl are popped up on foam dots.
I die cut the Alterations Small Easel out of kraft card stock and adhered it onto the back of my card  panel so it can be displayed nicely on a shelf or windowsill!

I hope you'll join us this week - and link up your Numbered Birthday masculine creation!  Who do you know that is having a special numbered birthday??  You'll find all the details and more inspiration from the Design Team over at the Cardz 4 Guyz blog!
