Three Awards and an Inspiring Fireplace

I am so late in acknowledging these wonderful awards bestowed upon me by some of my blogging friends - there just aren't enough hours in the day!

I received this "I Like Your Style" award from my good friend Anne Harada

This Honest Scrap award was given to me by Krazykropper

the rules for this award are:
1) Acknowledge the person who gave you the award
2) List 10 honest things about yourself
3) Put the Honest logo on your blog
4) select 7 other worthy bloggers to receive the award and list their links.
So I can at least tell you 10 honest things about myself:

1. I'm tall - I was 5'8" in 7th grade and hated it as I was taller then most of the boys at that age. Now that I've finally accepted my height - I'm shrinking - due to #2 below.
2. I'm getting old! I remember when the Miss America's were all WAY older than me - now they are younger than my son!
3. I am totally addicted to stamping - I'd rather stamp than go out to a movie, visit friends, or go for a walk on a sunny day - I'm currently seeking therapy for this addiciton LOL!!!
4. I love my DH and I'm so thankful that I met and married him 12 years ago after being a single mum for 20 years.
5. I'm thankful that God loves me and I find the older I get - the more I seek knowledge of Him and what he wants to teach me - and for that I am very grateful.
6. Contrary to my statement in #3 - I do love to be out in the yard gardening, or on the river kayaking, or in the woods snowshoeing!
7. I am always trying to practice good eating habits (ie dieting!) and sometimes I do better than others.
8. I love cutting flowers from my gardens and having them all over my house. This goes along with #6 above.
9. I love pizza and chips - and hot fudge Sundaes which is in direct contradiction with #7 above.
10. I am so thankful that I have met all of you wonderful blogging friends and I appreciate all I learn from your creative efforts!

I received this fun Lemonade Award from My Muse way back in April (I'm so bad!)

I'm afraid I'm just going to post these here for now - most of my blogging friends have already gotten awards from their other friends! Everyone that comes here to visit me deserves these - so please feel free to take one for yourself!!

And now I'll share a card I made Saturday for the Inspiration challenge on Split Coast. We were getting packed for vacation and I just 'took a peek' at the challenge and of course, got hooked and just had to make a card before leaving (Yes honey - I'm almost done packing - I'll be right there!!!) LOL!!
I used this fireplace view of the Better Homes and Gardens living room that Lori showed us for my inspiration.

I thought the tree Basic Grey Designer paper could represent the tile surround and I used PTI polka dot designer paper for the firebox itself. I stamped the potted flowers by Inkadinkado twice, cut out the blooms on one and layered it over the first stamping with foam dimensionals.

I have two gray kitties and I just love this tiny cat that's part of the new PTI set On My Couch Additions - so I just added that onto the sentiment with a foam dimensional.

Thanks so much for checking in with me today - hope you are inspired to go make a card too!

Stamps: Flower: Inkadinkado, Sentiment: In Bloom: PTI, Cat - On my couch additions: PTI
Paper: White: PTI, DP Bitty Dot basics - PTI, Basic Grey Off Beat
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Smokey Shadow: PTI
Accessories: tags 5 Spellbinders, foam dimensionals, copics: R32, YG63, Y06, RV06, E34

Awards galore and a Speckled Ugg

I have so many wonderful inspiring blogging friends and have been honored with the following awards from several of them!!

This one from Terri and Kay

1. I am to tell everyone 7 random/weird facts about myself
2. "tag" 7 more people.
3. Put a link to the giver on my blog.
4. Leave a message on the blogs of people that I tag
And this one from Joan and Amber

Here are the *official* rules for this one:
1. The winner may put the logo on their blog.
2. Put a link to the person who sent you the award.
3. Nominate 5 blogs.
4. Put links to their blogs
5. Leave a message for your nominees.

I am so appreciative of these awards but have been honored with so many of them! So I'm just going to tag 7 people and please take the award you would like from above!!

These are all blogging friends that I have found inspiration from - please take a minute to visit with them!

So here are 7 random facts about me:

1. I used to bite my fingernails down to the quick and just stopped about 10 years ago.
2. I wear a mouth guard at night because I apparently 'clench' my jaws so my teeth have deep wells in them - I don't grind - just clench!
3. I make lists - I would never remember anything if it wasn't for my 'lists'!
4. As a child I always wanted glasses because my sister and parents all wore them and I would tell my mother I couldn't see well just to try and get them!
5. I love to read.
6. I love to stamp more than read lately (well - probably all of you already know this fact and are in with me!!!)
7. I actually reduced my stamping time for a couple of weeks so that I could read the 4 Twilight novels!

And now onto some stamping!

What a fun new technique challenge today on Split Coast - speckled background made by spritzing Simple Green on glossy card stock that has been sponged with ink! DH had diluted our Simple Green with water and it didn't seem to work so I used an Orange cleaner we had.

Anne (itsapassion) had challenged us to use an Ugg boot as inspiration for the Double Dare Challenge I do each week with some SCS friends so I combined the two challenges. Here is the Ugg boot I used for inspiration . We had to use a brown background and the colors on the boot.
And here is my card with the speckled brown background and the colors from the boot!

I thought the speckled background came out sort of looking like the brushed leather on the boot. And I love the flowers in the Stampin Up Eastern Blooms set that I used here.

You can see the other Ugg inspired cards here.

Thank you so much for stopping by tonight - I just made 50,000 hits today thanks to you!! (Woo Hoo!!!) so there will be blog candy coming up soon as soon as I get my act together!

Stamps: Eastern Blooms: SU, Sentiiment from Heart Felt Thanks: PTI

An Award and 5 Acetate Cards

Lim honored my blog by giving me this special award - given to websites that catch your eye. Thank you so much Lim!

The rules for this award:

1. The winner can put the logo on her blog.

2. Link the person you received your award from.

3. Nominate 7 other blogs.

4. Put links of those blogs on yours.

5. Leave a message on the blogs you've nominated.

So I am, in turn, passing this award on to the following blogs I enjoy checking out - Please click on their names and hop on over to say hello and check out their 'stuff' !!!

Zakka she makes all kinds of fun crafts - especially for kids

Neva She often covers multiple challenges on one card!

Cindy - always has a story to go with her card!

Pam - a fellow Design Team member for Artful INKable Stamps who makes lovely cards!

Beth - a fellow DT member who makes beautiful cards!

Kim - a fellow DT member from Canada who makes super detailed cards!

Jenn - the 4th DT member from Hawaii who makes works of art cards!

And here are the 5 cards that I made at Lauren Meader's Class at the Papertree in Manchester, NH that I took last Sunday. I told you about them on a previous post and finally got them photographed.

I don't have the names of all the papers and stamps we used - but I can tell you how we made them.

On this first card - the flower was made by running a piece of DP through a Xyron laminating machine to put sticky adhesive on top of it - then you attach a piece of acetate over the DP. Stamp your flower (or whatever you want stamped) on the acetate with black Stazon Ink. Let it dry - then soak the DP/acetate square in water for 3-4 minutes - then gently rub off the dp from the acetate until there is just a thin layer of DP left so you can almost see through it. Let it dry and then attach to the card. I think she called this 'stained glass acetate' technique.

On this second card we attached a colored circle to the groove in these clear buttons using a thick glue dot. Then you turn the button over and stamp a flower on the flat side using white stazon ink. Then attach to the card - stamp leaves and make stems with a piercing tool.

On this cute card - we punched a circle in the strip of DP - marked the circle on the white card beneath - then stamped and colored the penguin within the circle on the card. We used a white dottted bg stamp to stamp on the acetate square with white stazon to look like snow. Then attached the acetate panel behind the circle in the DP. We attached the panel with foam dimensionals over the stamped penguin on the card. Stamped the sentiment and attached over the panel.

On this card we stamped the chick on the acetate square with black stazon- turned over the acetate panel and colored in the chick with Sakura Gel pens. Then we attached the acetate behind the circle in the DP and layered it to the panels with foam dimensionals as shown. We made the cute banner sentiment by cutting the ends and scoring 2 lines on each end about 1/4 inch apart and folding.

And our last card was on a half sheet of acetate - we attached the black panel to the inside of the card - attached the purple card to the outside back of the card (to cover the adhesive on the black panel) Then we stamped the image (this is all one stamp) using white stazon on ink and immediately pounced chalk over it using small cotton balls. After it dried a bit we blew and gently rubbed the excess chalk off. This was difficult to photograph - the color chalks are really green and pink.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Rockin Socks Award and Got your Passport?

My new blogging friend, Deb Neerman, just gave me this fun sock's rockin award! So now it's my turn to pick 6 deserving blogging friends to pass it on to!

Please check out these great blogs to see all the fun stuff out there!

Charlene - has beautiful fresh ideas with her cards!

Dee - has great cards as well as wonderful scrapbook pages to share with you!

Jewels - is so creative with her card designs!

Emma - has fun crafts mixed in with her card offerings!

Loretta - has the most interesting cards and was just published in Take Ten Magazine!

Deena - will keep you in the know about all the fun things going on in blogland!

So check them all out and leave them a comment or two - tell them Julia sent you!!

And now that those formalities are taken care of - here is my card!

I made this quick card for the Ways to Use it Challenge over at Split Coast that was called 'Get Packing' - to use packing materials or travel related stamps - I wanted to do the challenge because I have a ton of travel stamps but I really needed to get to bed! I tried to do a no layer simple card - but just couldn't do it - it seems that I must add layers! So this is pretty close - stamping on a piece of DP and layering it on the card! I only added ribbon at the top. The cute vespa girl is from Amuse Stamps and the sentiment is by Uptown Designs.

Thanks so much for dropping by - I really appreciate it!

Stamps: vespa girl: Amuse, Passport please: Uptown Designs
Paper: Green Bazzill, DP: Basic Grey - Archaic
Ink: Onyx black versafine
Accessories: ribbon: Michaels, glue dots

An Early Father and Blogging with A Purpose Award

Hi everyone! I've been working on some cards that I'm going to bring to a local shop - hopefully to sell (!) Some of those I'm bringing are these Father's Day cards. I'm sure you've seen these fun origami shirts before - this year I added some cute ties from Hero Arts to mine. You can see instructions for the shirt as well as some fun variations in the Try a New Technique forum on Split Coast here.

The Dad and dots stamp is from the new Verve Visual Set called Father Figure. I also used a cuttlebug folder on the panal. The cardstock is Kraft.

The Father definition stamp is by Paper Inspirations and I used another Cuttlebug panel on the Caramel card base for this set of cards. The panels are Naturals Ivory, Certainly Celery and Basic Black. The Hero Arts ties come in a set of 3 and each one has a different pattern on it. I just stamped them in black on colored card stock and matched each one up to the dp that I used for the shirts. I think these little shirts are just so cute!

I just found out today that Deb gave me this very nice award.

Thanks to all of you for the comments that you leave here that always lift my spirits and the inspiration that you provide each and every day!

I'm passing this award onto:

LeAnne and Beverly

Please check out their inspiring blogs and leave them a comment on something you like there!

Now I have to go finish some origami flower place name cards that I'll be using on my table for Mother's Day Sunday. I'll post them as soon as I finish them so check back soon!!

Thought for the day from Poor Richard's Almanac by Ben Franklin: "What you would seem to be, be really."

Have a great night - thanks for stopping by!

It's A Celebration - I got Honorable Mention for Papertrey Contest

This is a card I had submitted to the PapertreyInk April Guest Star Designer contest. I used their It's a Celebration stamp set and all Papertrey papers on this card. I didn't win but I did make Honorable Mention! See it on Nicole's Blog !

I love these flags that include the rope they are strung on. I cut out and popped up every other flag along the line. I cut the stars with my nestabilities using white and Berry Sorbet card stock. I love the deep color of this paper. The designer papers are from the Pink Patterns collection.
You really need to try the Papertrey cardstock if you haven't already - it is a nice heavy weight so the cards stand right up and don't curl or bend.
Thanks for checking out my card today - I'd love to hear what you think of it!
Stamps: It's a Celebration: Papertrey
Paper: Berry Sorbet, White, Pink Patterns - all Papertrey Ink
Ink: Berry Sorbet, Sweet Blush, Pitch Black Adirondack
Accessories: nestability stars, dimensionals

Coach Egg Box - PapertreyInk Honorable Mention!

I'm so excited! Wanted to share my fun news that I got Honorable Mention for this PapertreyInk egg box I decorated and submitted to their March Guest Star Stamper contest.
I had already purchased 4 of these cute egg boxes from Papertrey when they came out last month and so when I found these fun sports eggs at CVS I decided to try and figure out how to decorate it using them inside.
At first I thought along the lines of making it for a child involved in sports - but I couldn't get a good design in my head. So I went to Michaels looking for some DP that might inspire and direct me. I found the paper I used on the top of the box - by Bohemia - called Blue Bird: All Boy Stripe and thought this sort of looked like a sports field with the lines on it. I had the DP of a photo of grass by Die Cuts With a View already and the design clicked in my head. I just rubbed the ink pad directly onto the insert in the box with the holes in it - I think it looks like they are laying on the grass inside the box.
I used the Papertrey set - Just Hatched - for the oval on the top left - it says 'Half-Dozen Treats - Just Hatched - Especially for you'. I used my Karen Foster Snap Stamp alphabet to stamp COACH, and another Just Hatched sentiment - 'Just a Little Something' under that. The baseball stamp by Stampabilities is cut out and up on dimensionals as is the coach oval.
The ovals were punched with my Nestabilities. The green dotted ribbon is also from Papertrey.
Of course - if you were really giving this to a coach - you would buy several sets of these eggs so you would have 6 of the sport the coach was actually coaching - unless she/he really was an 'all around' coach!
Check out all the Papertrey March winners/honorable mentions here.
Debbie Olson has some good instructions on how to cover the egg boxes here:
Thanks for checking this out today! I'll be posting the winner of the Blog candy in the post below first thing tomorrow!
Stamps: Papertreyink: Just Hatched, Karen Foster Snap Stamps, Baseball: Stampabilities
Paper: Kraft, DP: Grass - DCWV The Stack III, Bohemia Blue Bird all boy stripe
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Meadow Adirondack
Accessories: Egg Box & Ribbon - PapertreyInk, Sports Eggs: CVS, Nestability Ovals, dimensionals.

I Won a Card Contest on Caardvarks!

I'm so excited - I just have to share this news with you!

I just found out that I won a contest that I entered a card in over at Caardvarks. During the month of February they had a different Love card contest each week - love of baby, love of spouse and last week was love of friends. So I sent in my smocked dress card that I posted here on my blog on 2/14/08.

So what did I win - you ask??!! Well....... I won a set of acrylic stamps from Queen Kat Designs and a Caardvarks Caard kit (I don't know what that is! so I'll let you know about it when I receive it - I'm sure it will be something creative and fun!)

So I'm one happy stamper today! Thanks for letting me share my fun news with you!
