Happy 4th of July USA!

Today we in the USA are celebrating our independence from Britain in 1776.  The 4th of July - I hadn't thought to make a card - but it's 90 degrees F out and I've been staying mostly inside - no parades or fireworks outside for us today -  we'll watch the celebration in Boston on TV tonight!

So - since I was inside anyay -  I suddenly thought I should make and post a card for the 4th!
I used stamps from a retired Waltzingmouse set - USA 1776 and I made the background using Loll's Splash Watercolor technique video.  I used Ranger Distress Inks Fired Brick and Broken China.

I'm linking my card to the July CAS Watercolor challenge.

So Happy 4th of July to all those in the US -  and Happy Canada Day on July 1st to all of my Canadian friends!

And since the 4th is a celebration
I'm also linking to
The Paper Players
who are celebrating their 400th challenge!

Paper:  Watercolor paper - Canson, Pure Poppy - PTI

Happy 4th! Tim's Tag - July 2015

Tim's July Tag perfectly coincides with the United States celebration of July 4th - our independence day.  So today I share my version of Tim's tag
and also wish all my fellow US Citizens - a Happy 4th of July!
You will find Tim's tag and his detailed instructions here.
I used the same stamps - but have the large set, Americana Blueprint,  not the smaller version - so I decided to use the Statue of Liberty and the USA stamps.
I used the larger 7 3/8" x 3 5/8" manilla tag in order to fit the larger stamps.  I used a piece of Paper Stash Motif for the background.  These papers each have a clear design on them - I used the one with circles, and sponged over the paper with Distress Vintage Photo to allow the circles to show.  I colored the U with Fired Brick Distress Marker and A with Faded Jeans - going over them with a waterbrush.   For the background I rubbed Iced Spruce on my craft mat and used my waterbrush to 'paint' around the letters for a subtle shadow.    I colored the ribbon with Distress Markers and my water spritzer the way Tim did.  I added Mirrored Stars to my tab as well as some Remnant Rubs from Botanical and Numbers.
I colored Miss Liberty with Bundled Sage and Broken China Distress Markers to give it the weathered patina that the actual statue has - going over the coloring with a waterbrush
I rubbed Salty Ocean Distress Ink on my craft mat and waterbrushed the color around the statue.  I added the Vial Label with a Big Chat sticker and Remnant Rubs, and added two more Mirrored Stars
I'm sure you noticed my sweet patriotic trees -  Tim showed us how to make them on his post here.  As soon as I saw them I knew I had to make some!   They are SO easy to make!  I used Salty Ocean and Barn Door Distress Spray Stains, blocking off the white part on the Woodlands Trees with painters tape.
LOVE, LOVE how they came out!!
The technique for coloring the Letterpress Blocks is also on Tim's Patriotic Post.  Basically, you dab some Distress Paints onto your craft mat - then dip the letters into them - let them dry then sand off the color until it looks like you want it, and then glue the letters together.  I added a Mirrored Star to mine.
Happy 4th of July everyone!!

Waltzingmouse Pajama Party - June 2015

I'm attending the Waltzingmouse June Pajama Party tonight -  are you coming too?
Around the first of each month Claire posts the challenges for the PJ Party that happens on the 14th of each month over at the Waltzingmouse Blog.  You have almost two weeks to get your projects done and ready to bring to the party.  The party starts at Midnight (Claire's Time in Ireland) and you have 24 hours to link up your projects.  Here are Claire's June Challenges:
Challenge 1 - Can It/Pickle It  Make a project involving canning jars/jam jars
I decided to make a treat bag as I often give gifts of cookies or other treats, especially during the holidays so I like to have them on hand!  The jar, jar cover and cookies stamps are from Candy Jar Christmas Fillers, the Sweet Treats sentiment is from Candy Jar Christmas, the For You and little heart stamped on the striped paper are from Jam Packed.
I cut the tags with the Stitched Tag Die set out of Kraft Core Coredinations paper and then lightly sanded them to reveal the kraft core.  I cut the jar and lid using the Jar Essentials Die set and the little heart hole reinforcer on the blue tag is from the Folding Tag die set.  So cute right?
(Design Tip:  the heart, star, circle and square reinforcer dies are great for filling a shaker card!)
I'm linking my treat bag to the Tag You're It challenge
I was inspired by the design of placing a tag on a gift bag and the food theme!
Challenge #2 - Coffee Color Challenge - Inspiration Photo
For this color challenge, I pulled out a little 4 oz coffee cup and decorated it with a brown strip of patterned paper and stampings from My Island
I stamped the sun stamp in Orange Zest, the beach hut and umbrella in Dark Chocolate and the chillax in Pure Poppy.  I sponged all the edges with Ranger Distress Brushed Corduroy and layered the pieces onto the sun stamping with foam dots.  I added some sequins, layered the sun to a piece of Pure Poppy and adhered it over the band on the cup.  A cute little treat container!
(I got the 4 oz cups on ETSY here. thanks for enabling me Amy Tsuruta!!)
Challenge #3 - Old Pajamas -   Use one of your older Waltzingouse Stamps sets to create a project for this challenge! The WMS Design Team will be digging out our USA 1776,  stamp sets for this one.
Perfect timing for this set with the 4th of July coming up in the US!  I hand cut the stamped frame and Miss Liberty and layered them over the card base using foam dots.  I sponged everything with Ranger Distress Brushed Corduroy and added some sequins to the centers of several of the fireworks!
I'm linking my 4th of July card to Addicted to Stamps and More - Holiday

Challenge #4  - Bedtime Story Sketch
I was inspired to make a baby girl card with the Bedtime Story Sketch.  I used stamps from USA 1776 for the banner (see how below).  The Special Delivery and Arriving Soon sentiments are from Little Darlings Images and A Baby Girl and a little bundle of Sweetness are from Little Darling Sentiments.   I used the beautiful Picot Panel Die for the sentiment in the center.   I added 3 Mirrored Stars for some sparkle!
Here's how I made my banner using one of the star arm stamps from USA 1776 (when you put 5 of these together it forms a star) -  I stamped it and cut it out leaving a little white border around the edge.  Then I just cut across it corner to corner to make a banner shape.  I used the larger bottom piece.  I put a piece of ScorTape across the top of each banner on the back and laid the twine over it to hold it in place.  I put a piece of foam tape on each banner so it would pop up off the card.  I flipped it over and spaced the  banners the way I wanted them on the card front.
You can also see how I lined up two sentiment stamps on my acrylic block so it was easy peasy to stamp the two sentiments evenly along the bottom.  For the  single stamp Special Delivery stamping along the top I just drew a line in pencil so I'd stamp straight and erased the line after stamping!

(Design Tip:  when stamping a sentiment across the whole card - start on one side with part of the sentiment off the edge)
So we really hope to see you at the Waltzingmouse Pajama Party - there are prizes to be won!   You don't have to use WMS stamps but if you have them please do!! You'll find all the details at the WMS blog.

CC3C Challenge #4 - Layering Stencil Texture Paste

I'm playing along with the Compendium of Curiosities Vol 3 challenges.  Challenge #4 is to use the Layering Stencil Texture Paste technique that Tim teaches us on Page 49 of CC Vol 3.  We cannot describe the technique - as they want you to purchase your own copy of Tim's book - but here is my project using the technique - and I can describe how I put it together!
I made an ATB (Artist Trading Box) using Eileen Hull's Blocks/Cube die from Sizzix. There are 3 sizes on the die.  This is the largest one measuring 2 1/2" square. I was going to be making tags for all of these challenges - but I'm really having fun with these wonderful ATB's so decided to use this technique on a block!
I used the Layering Stencil Texture Paste technique on the panels that I adhered to each side of the box.  Here is the panel before I cut it since you can't see it too well with all the findings I decorated my box with!
Here are the 2 die cut pieces that make up the box.  I cut them out of white Little Sizzles Matboard and sponged all the edges and folds with Crushed Corduroy Distress Ink
I adhered the cut stenciled panels to all of the sides and then started adding my findings.  You want to be sure you have placed things the right way up when you go to put your cube together!
All of the 4th of July images on the panels are cut from Tim Holtz Paper Stash 8X8" Seasonal.  I sponged the edges and curled the corners of the images before layering them on the panels.  I added a Chit Chat Sticker to each as well as a Mini Gear that I inked with Carnation Red Archival ink.
Here's the front.
the side
the back
and the other side - I put a piece of Film Strip Ribbon with the Chit Chat Sticker on this side.
Here's the bottom
and the top!  I added some Remnent Rubs Botanical and Life Quotes here.
I screwed a Clock Key in the center of the top of the box, died some Crinkle Ribbon with Worn Lipstick and Salty Ocean Distress Stain and water, dried it and looped it through the holes on the key.  I added a Mini Numeral 4 to the Clock Key with a thick glue dot as well as the Paper Rosette that I cut out of Ranger Distress Core-dinations paper.
Here you can see how I just hung the tails of the ribbon over the side of the box.
CC3C is sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique this time and a $25 gift certificate will be awarded to one lucky randomly chosen winner! There's also a prize package from Tim and Mario awarded!
I'm also linking my 4th of July box to Eileen Hull's Art with Heart June Challenge - Summer Celebrations.
Thanks so much for stopping by -  I really appreciate any comments that you leave for me!

WMS May Release Inspiration - USA 1776

Every Tuesday and Thursday in June some of the WMS design team will be posting using the new May Release Stamp sets - USA 1776 and Country Labels 4.  You can find out who's posting by checking Claire's WMS blog on Tuesday and Thursday each week in June!

Today it's Lynn and me!  I'm using the festive USA 1776 set for my projects -  It's time to get your party on!!  Wouldn't these look festive and fun on your celebratory party table??!!

I made these wonderful party favor table decorations using templates from Claire's WMS shop -   The Three King's Boxes template and the Tea Cracker cut file.  These are both FREE downloads!  Claire created these for Christmas -  but I've commandeered them for the USA 4th of July - and I bet you could figure out how to use these stamps for New Year's Eve, birthday, graduation or another celebration - using different colors and sentiments on these fun templates!
So - I took a few pics as I was making these so you could see just what I did.  I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the Tea Cracker cut files.  Then I stamped them with one of the fireworks stamps in this set.
Rolled it up on my glue pen to get the curve going.

Added a strip of double sided tape to one edge - rolled 'em up and sealed the edge.

Then I pinched the area with the cut out diamonds together on each end
and just pushed the end towards the center a bit to get a good crease.

Here they are unadorned -
I stamped Happy 4th punching it out with a small oval punch and adhered on the cracker with foam tape.

I tied red and blue wrinkled seam tape around the ends.  You could put M&M's, mints, a special note, any small treat inside these.  Mine measure approx 5 1/4" long 1" diameter.

And here are the straight and tall Three Kings - ready to hold lots of treats, a dried flower bouquet or even a taper candle (for looks only - NOT to be lit!)

Here's how I stamped the more decorated ones.  The blue diamonds and red line stamps along the bottom are from the previously released set Heirloom Patterns.
Score where noted, fold it up, tape the ends tie a grosgrain ribbon around the neck and add the stamped die cut star!

This one I stamped more simply with just the 'crown' stamping, the star and ribbon.  Look how different they look just by using a red or blue ribbon!
The star is stamped with a stars stamp and a stripes stamp in the set - they are so easy to line up - and when you've stamped 5 of them - they fit in the Spellbinders Star die!
So - one more look at how festive your next celebration could be!
Now let's waltz over to Lynn's blog to see what she has to inspire us with!  Be sure to check Claire's blog every Tuesday and Thursday in June to see who's posting - I'll be highlighting the Country Labels 4 set on June 27th!
